October 29, 2012: Marietta Daily Journal coverage

A week before the November 2012 general election, the campaign posted an item titled after the Marietta Daily Journal, Cobb County's daily newspaper. Here is what the record shows about that final stretch.

What can be verified

The address shows a campaign post dated October 29, 2012 whose title names the Marietta Daily Journal. That suggests it shared or quoted MDJ coverage of the race, but we have not been able to retrieve either the post or the MDJ article it referred to, so we don't describe what the newspaper said.

The race in its final weeks

  • The Council for Quality Growth, an Atlanta development-industry group, wrote on October 22, 2012 that District 6 was the one seat standing between Senate Republicans and a constitutional (two-thirds) majority. It linked to an MDJ article on the contest.
  • Observers had expected the redrawn seat to be expensive. Patch reported in 2011 that it could become one of the costliest legislative races in Georgia, and Ballotpedia's finance summary shows Hill's 2012 campaign raising about $602,000.

Result

On November 6, 2012 Hill won 52.8 percent to Doug Stoner's 47.2 percent, according to Ballotpedia's certified figures. Patch's breakdown of the unofficial count showed Stoner winning the Cobb County portion of the district and Hill carrying the Fulton County portion by a wide margin. See the elections page.
