What independent sources show

  • 2011 to 2012. Hill's October 2011 Patch essay called for "lower and fairer taxes." Rough Draft Atlanta reported in April 2012 that he named the economy as the top issue and emphasized limited government and low taxes.
  • In the Senate. The AJC reported in 2018 that he voted against the 2015 transportation package of fees and taxes, and that he voted for record state budgets, which the paper contrasted with his later promises to cut spending.
  • 2018. His governor's campaign proposed phasing out the state income tax over seven years and replacing much of the revenue with a broader sales tax. Rivals and Gov. Nathan Deal questioned whether the plan added up (AJC).
